Going to a new place can often be confusing and a little intimidating.  I’m sure we all remember that “new person” feeling.  We here at Cornerstone Baptist Church have long been known as a “very friendly church.”  We want to do our best to make you and your family feel comfortable and “at home.”  Our pastor constantly stresses the fact that at Cornerstone Baptist Church PEOPLE are priority.  In order to make you feel a little more comfortable, we have included answers to some frequently asked questions by people that are new to our church.

Q: When Should I Arrive?

On Sunday mornings, our Sunday school classes begin at

10:00 A.M.  Navigating around our building is fairly simple.

However, to ensure that you and each of your family members

are able to be directed to your appropriate classes, we

encourage you to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to Sunday

School.  An usher or another member will be available to take

you and your family members to your appropriate classes.

For a listing of our different Sunday school classes, please take

a look at our Ministries page.

Q: Is there a dress code for church attendance?

Everyone is welcome at CBC.  While many of our members dress nicely for church in respect for God, there is no formal dress code.  Please know we are glad you are here, however you come; and we sincerely desire to minister to you from our hearts.  We believe that God is interested in our hearts first and foremost.

Q: Are there services at other times?

Yes. We have our Sunday evening service at 6:30 P.M.  Wednesday Bible study is at 7:00 P.M.  Immediately following the Wednesday night Bible study, we have our weekly prayer time during which people may share prayer requests.  Small prayer groups or teams are formed to pray over those requests and our Monthly Prayer List.  Our evening services are always a special time because of the “family” atmosphere they create.  We encourage YOU to come and be a part of our “family get-togethers” on Sunday and Wednesday evenings.

Q: What’s here for my kids?

Nurseries for birth through four years old are available.  Our nursery is a safe, clean, well-managed, and well-staffed place for your child.  Because we believe that children are a precious gift from the Lord, special care is taken when selecting those who are on our nursery staff.  We ensure that each nursery staff person is well-qualified and well-trained.  For children from five years through college age, we have exciting Christ-centered Sunday school classes.  Choirs are also available for children four years through college age.  Fun and exciting activities are also planned periodically to give children and teens entertainment in a godly and supervised atmosphere.

Q:  What’s in the name Baptist?

This church is a Baptist church by conviction and principle, not by affiliation.  This means that we believe the basic Bible teachings for which Baptists have historically stood.  As Baptists, we believe the following:  The Bible is our sole authority for all matters of faith and practice.  The church should be autonomous and self-governing.  The believer does not need a priest other than Jesus Christ to come boldly to God.  Every Christian has equal access to God personally.  God’s Word gives us two offices for the church—pastors and deacons.  For a more detailed account of these principles with supporting scriptures, please refer to our Statement of Faith.

Q:  What is the philosophy about financial giving?

We have never practiced pressure techniques or fund-raising schemes.  Rather, we choose to occasionally preach and teach what God’s Word says  about Christian stewardship and giving.  How you respond to that teaching is a heart issue between you and the Lord.  The only time you will be contacted about your giving is either when you request it or when receiving a copy of your personal annual giving statement.

Q:  Where do I give my tithes and offerings?

There is a box located at the back of the auditorium available for you to place your tithes and offerings.  You will find an offering envelope in the back of the pews.

Q:  What does this church do to help the needy?

Hundreds of lives are touched weekly through the different outreach ministries of our church.  In addition to this, we do what we can to fill any special need a person may have.  Each need is presented to our pastor and carefully evaluated.  He then presents the need to the congregation so that we can collectively meet the need to the best of our ability.  It is our policy never to give money to an individual but directly to the responsible party that will provide the service.

Q:  What does it mean to be independent?

As an independent Baptist church, we are not affiliated with any particular Baptist denomination or ruling body.  Because of this, we can support our own missionaries, select our own leader, and support institutions that believe as we believe.  In short, our church answers to the headship of Jesus Christ rather then a denominational body.  There are currently more than 10,000 independent Baptist churches in America and thousands more throughout the world.

Q:  How do I become a member of the church?

By profession of faith and baptism—If you will receive Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour and follow Him in baptism by immersion, we welcome you into our fellowship.

By letter—As a Baptist, whose church membership is elsewhere, should God direct you here we will be pleased to welcome you into our church family.  We will happily take care of appropriate details for transferring your membership.

By baptism from another denomination—If you know in your heart that you are saved and want to become a member of Cornerstone, we invite you to join us by baptism.  This gives testimony of your salvation and your obedience to His direction. You may express your desire to fulfill any of the above by presenting yourself during the invitation at the close of each worship service.  Of course any decision assumes your commitment to being faithful in prayer and participation in our Lord’s work at Cornerstone.

If there is something that we missed on this list, please give us a call, or ask someone when you arrive.  It is our heart’s desire at Cornerstone Baptist Church that each person feels a part of our “family”.  Whether you are new to Christianity, or are simply new to the area and are looking for a good church home, we hope that your experience here will leave you renewed and will inspire you and your family to know God in a more personal way.  Please let us know how we can serve you better.  We hope to meet you this Sunday!
